It’s crazy how quickly the weather has changed in Michigan. It feels like fall this week- I was cold at Mathew’s softball game last night! Summer lovers might be mad about it, but I’m not. Maybe you’re sick of hearing me say so, but I’m ready for fall.
I thought I’d share a little more about why I love this season so that maybe you’ll be okay with me being so okay with the change in weather. 😉 And, if you’re one of those summer lovers, please know I fully acknowledge there are still a few official weeks left of summer.I think I’ve always loved fall. My birthday is in October, so I’m willing to bet that helped my initial love for the season. What kid doesn’t love her birthday? I think the other reason I loved fall early on is that I played soccer every fall starting in first grade. It was my sport. My dad coached, my school friends signed up to be on the same team, and I have a lot of happy memories of weeknight practice and going to 7/11 afterwards with my dad to get a hot dog, a cookie, and a Gatorade. I loved Saturday morning games, being with friends, sportsmanship, competition, being cheered for by my family, and snacks and drinks after the game.
As I got older, I enjoyed the weather change. Michigan really shines in autumn. The leaves change to beautiful colors and Mother Nature puts on a show. Other fall things that stole my heart over the years: pumpkin pie, apple cider, trick-or-treating, hot chocolate, pumpkin carving, Thanksgiving, the crunch of leaves underfoot, wearing layers.
It’s all so wonderful.
I still look forward to all those things. Even trick-or-treating, though now I’m the one handing out candy as the kids trail by. I’ve also added wine tasting to the list of things I love about fall, and I’m a little sad to miss out this year. I love the anticipation and build up to the holidays. Our wedding anniversary is in October. And this year, the birth of our baby will make us parents for the first time.
I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited for fall.
So, give me a little grace for diving right into this season. I’ve been planning outfits for the next few weeks, and at one point I stopped myself and wondered if I was getting a little too far ahead of myself when I was wearing a long sleeve tee, a denim jacket, and a blanket scarf! Haha! We took the photos anyways. 🙂
Speaking of fall outfits, I’ve long loved a denim dress with tights and boots. My denim dress got an update this year to fit my growing belly. I’ve linked a few styles, both maternity and non-maternity below. I definitely consider a denim dress or chambray dress to be a wardrobe staple this time of year.
Denim lends itself to be paired with any color, and I love the idea of colored tights too. Ankle boots now, knee-high boots later as the weather cools. you just cant’ go wrong.
