On Friday I listed tons of things I’ve been loving for spring, including this gray lace back sweater from Banana Republic. I ordered a few new things for spring over President’s Day weekend, and it feels good to incorporate a few new things into my wardrobe for the new season. Especially when said items were on sale.
Whenever I shop for new wardrobe items, I often search for pieces that can do double duty. I was thinking about that weekend when trying to decide if I should style this sweater for a casual look or a work look. I started thinking about how many of my recent purchases could also be worn dressed up for work or dressed down for the weekend.
This has inspired a new series this month that I’m calling Work to Weekend. I’m going to choose a few new pieces and style a work week look and also a casual look for the weekend. I hope this will be a fun series that can inspire both of us to look at wardrobe pieces as being multi-functional.
Since this sweater has a fun, lace up back detail, I kept the rest of my outfit simple. I do work in marketing, which is a creative environment, but our team is small and generally when I get dressed for work I tend more towards the conservative side. I went for a sort of mono-chromatic look with black and shades of grey. I added some color with a fun lip color/gloss from Covergirl. I’ve linked all the items, or similar ones below.
This sweater is thick, but the open back makes it a great winter-to-spring transition piece. I’ll post this sweater styled for a casual look on Friday this week, so be sure to come back for that one.

What’s your philosophy when adding to your wardrobe? Do you look for pieces that can be styled for different occasions? How important is versatility to you? Did you buy anything on sale over President’s Day weekend?
